'UNIFORM - An Essential Part of the Job'

 Open 10am – 4pm, Tuesday – Saturday, from 14th January – 7th February. Free admission

On display is a selection of some of the museum’s most precious historical police garments.
The Guildhall was the one of the first purpose-built combined police station, fire station and courthouse in the country. It was built in 1848 on the orders of Francis Russell 7th Duke of Bedford, to cope with the rising crime rate in Tavistock brought on by the 19th century mining boom.
Today’s visitors to the Heritage Centre can see the original cells, go up the stairs into the court 'dock' and view this exhibition in the historic Courtroom.

Illustrated talk entitled

Join Simon Dell for an illustrated talk entitled "Three Murders and a Suicide"

In this talk Simon explores the circumstances surrounding three murders which occurred before he joined the police service in 1975 but with which he had a connection. They are eventually joined together by a suicide in a curious and intriguing twist at the end of the story.

Because of the nature of the talk this is a presentation suitable to an adult audience and there are images of the scenes of all three murders which might not be for everyone's interest.

Doors open at 6:45pm and the talk starts at 7pm in the Courtroom. It is free to attend, although donations to the Guildhall are always welcome
